Soul Talk with David Lurey, yoga teacher and bhakti artist

Nicole Dechow

-Soul Talk is a short 3 question interview series with inspiring people from all over the world-

I met David almost 7 years ago while we were teaching in the same yoga studio in Hamburg, Germany. I was amazed by how he combines his playfulness and knowledge in his yoga classes and even more how he touched his students hearts with his songs. Let me tell you, I saw many joyful tears in savasana. I was not surprised that later on he released a much wanted and loved album and highly recommend it to all yoga students and teachers.

What I love:

Life itself... on a daily basis and all the miracles I witness.  I love my family.  I love nature in all its many forms.  I love applying philosophy to daily life in ways that push the edge of how to interact peacefully with all beings.  I love my guitars and singing mantras.  I love dark chocolate and taking sun on the beach (but not at the same time... the chocolate melts!).  I love flying in airplanes (and yes, I know the carbon implications of that and do my best to balance where I can).  I love trees and movies that make my heart open.

What Yoga means to me:

Finding as many ways to bring body, mind & spirit into a positive relationship with each other as possible... on and off the mat.  Also, exploring ways to expand my consciousness in all directions equally.

My Health Secrets:

-Scraping & Milking the tongue on a daily basis
-Coconut Oil for the hair (and skin when it is warm outside)
-Observe your poop to have a clear vision of digestion... a key to overall health.
-BALANCE!  Not too much, not too little (of all things)

Thank you for sharing your gifts and light with the world, David. I will forever keep playing your songs in my yoga playlists.

About David:

David, E-RYT 500 was introduced to Yoga in 1996 as a way to tone his body and relieve work related stress. Using those as a foundation for building an Asana practice, the other limbs of Patanjali’s Ashtanga Yoga began to unfold leading him to the path of teaching transformational Yoga.

David is currently based in Palma de Mallorca, Spain co-creating courses and trainings to ‘Inspire Health and Vitality’ with his beloved wife, Mirjam Wagner.

2. What Yoga means to me

Yoga, to me, means union, and union happens through the process of meditation. Asanas are the preparation, and meditation is the nectar.

Through meditation, we become aware of what we really are: creative spirits having an experience of God that is within us. Yoga has been essential to my personal development, because it has helped me to re-pattern my mind, heal body, heart and soul, and accomplish much more than I ever through possible. Yoga is a passport to new life.

Yoga takes you beyond a discussion of God to a vivid experience of it. When we develop our third eye, we become equipped with an interior compass to guide us.

Through meditation we can also access past lives and “try on” future possibilities. As the saying goes, you cannot play your part role in time until you understand who you are in eternity. (quote by sufi mystic Meera)

Yoga also means long lasting friendships with wonderful people and opportunities for travel, teaching and study. It’s taken me to people and places I could hardly imagine before.

And finally, it is the foundation for mental peace and confidence. It helps us to break mental patterns, and to be more confident because when we practice yoga, we feel strong.  Three of my top pick words to describe yoga would be: union, strength and awareness.

3. My  Health Secrets

1.     Loads of fresh vegetables. My grandmother is nearly 101, and she still works as an insurance agent in Manila. Her number one secret is vegetables.
2.     Live a purpose, not a career.
3.     Organic lifestyle ~ eat organic foods and use chemical free personal products. Once you get into the lifestyle it’s not as expensive as people think. In fact, it can even be more cost effective.
4.     Find a good doctor that is knowledgeable about current information, and one who is health conscious him or herself and will keep you motivated and tell you the truth.
5.     A modality of internal energy healing called Vibrational Activation.
6.     Exercise.
7.     Spend time in nature.
8.     Affirmative thinking, meditation and prayer.
9.     Be nice to yourself. Much nicer!
10. Through all things, Be Love.

Thank you for this inspiring and soulful insights, Karen.

INNER PEACE - 5 ways to find it right now

Nicole Dechow

choose peace over worry

choose peace over worry

Inner Peace sounds big and often we believe that to achieve a state of inner peace we need our lives to be perfect, do something or earn that state of peace. We tend to believe that when we achieve something, do something or be something we will find peace. The truth is we are always evolving and will never stop evolving and be perfect. In fact right now, in this moment on your journey you can find peace. Peace comes from within.
By finding your inner peace you are reflecting peace to the outside world and as we know these days our world can need an extra dose of peace.

Here I share with you 5 ways to find your inner peace – right now:

1.     Make peace with your past
Whatever happened on your journey, make peace with it. That doesn’t mean it’s all ok and you agree with everything that happened. At the same time make a cut and do not allow your past to determinate who you are today or even will become in the future. Forgive yourself and forgive others.

2.     ME Time
Commit to time with yourself. Meditate, do whatever makes you feel connected to yourself like art, listening to music. This time is so important and trust me you can only be happy with someone else when you can be happy with yourself first.

3.    Authenticity
The only way to love and to to be loved as the hightest version of you is to be truly authentic and be who you are.
That’s a powerful statement and its absolutely true. You are unique and you are amazing like that. Share your uniqueness with the world.

4.    Connect with nature
Spend time in nature, everyday. Look around, appreciate nature and soak up the energy. It’s like a recharge for your soul and your being. Breathe the good and fresh air.

5.     Move
Move in whichever way you can. Your body loves to move. It allows stored emotions in the body to get released and keeps your body strong and flexible.
We all know how many emotions we can let go of if we move deeply into hip-openers in yoga class or how releasing it can feel to hit a punching bag.  Run to work, choose to take the stairs or take your friend on a yoga date.

By changing ourselves first we can make an impact and by that change the world.
Sending out love and peace,
you are loved and you are worthy,

Nicole
